Freelancing in Dubai requires a trade licence — the days of invoicing UAE clients on a personal residence visa alone are over. The two mainstream routes are: the DET E-Trader License (AED 1,416.50/year, Mainland, home-based, all nationalities with UAE residence) and the TECOM GoFreelance permit (from AED 7,500/year in DTEC / DIC / DMC, with visa options). E-Trader vs GoFreelance

E-Trader is issued by DET and covers freelance activities under Professional trade categories: management consultancy, marketing services, software development, graphic design, content creation, photography, translation and more. AED 1,416.50/year all-in, home-based, no office.

GoFreelance is issued by TECOM (Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Dubai Design District). From AED 7,500/year without visa, or AED 12,000–17,000/year with an investor visa and Establishment Card. Better fit if you need a new residence visa.
